How many Marines reading this blog (serving and retired) remember having a leader discuss the ‘Marine Corps’ definitions of the qualities and attributes that are assessed when determining our Proficiency and Conduct marks?

Likewise, how many leaders reading this blog are fulfilling their duty to have such discussions with those who look to them for leadership, when determining their marks?

Per MARADMIN 091/12, the board will convene on 17 April 2012 for a period of about 8 weeks.

The ENLPROMMAN specifies that selection board members consider demonstrated performance/achievement, leadership, professional and technical knowledge, experience (type and level), growth potential, motivation, military proficiency, physical fitness, personal appearance, conduct, moral character, and maturity in order to determine who is “best and fully qualified” for selection.

As a uniformed member of the U. S. Armed Forces I have been very fortunate when it comes to health care.  No matter what malady I came down with or injury I suffered medical services were always there, and they were always free.  Everything is covered, from bullet wounds to brain surgery to chipped teeth.  Pretty nice benefit to have, particularly considering the occupational hazards that come with fighting our nation’s wars.

Senior Enlisted Leaders

March 20, 2012

We need to do a better job at identifying the roles, responsibilities and qualifications for our two-track senior enlisted leaders.

Currently, the ENLPROMMAN states that SgtsMaj and 1stSgts are the principal enlisted advisors to their commanders.  I believe this to be true regarding the obligations of command.  However, I believe that the MGySgts and MSgts are the principal enlisted advisors to their commanders regarding their assigned MOS and OccFld.
