The Earthquake in Chile
Remarks of the Honorable Norman Armour, United States Ambassador to Chile, broadcast February 6, 1939, are of special interest to all those Marines who were in Managua, Nicaragua, at the time of the earthquake there.
ONE week ago today in Santiago, the capital of Chile, I stepped aboard a United States army plane which was rushing on an errand of mercy and accompanied it to the earthquake stricken area. The scene which I saw on that summer's afternoon, for it is mid-summer in Chile now, will remain forever in my memory.
