The Making of a Legionnaire

Volume 17, Issue 1

The six regiments and special units of the French Foreign Legion total approximately 25,000 today, an increase of about 250 per cent over its pre-war organization. Unique in its score or more of varying nationalities, its flag, organization, discipline, uniform, customs and traditions, it has rounded out the centenary mark of its glamorous service to stand out unchallenged as the most efficient expeditionary force in the world. The dove of peace finds no sanctuary or welcome on its legendary battle flags.
