In the year 1295 the famous traveller and explorer Marco Polo returned to his native city of Venice after years of travel in the far lands of the Orient and began to write the story of his strange adventures in Cathay, the China of today. His story was looked upon as highly fanciful and the incredulous scholars of Europe received it with great doubt and criticism.
