Loyalty Ensures Marine Receives Silver Star, Purple Hearts

"It seemed like an eternity," remembered retired First Sergeant Dan Moore of a midnight battle fought in Vietnam 31 years ago. "Were Marines coming in from the perimeter, or were they the enemy?"

After the fears which initially froze his trigger finger were dismissed, then-Private First Class Dan Moore, an artilleryman, distinguished himself in a battle where he really had no formal role.
