In Memoriam: Brian Keith

Sergeant Brian Keith died in Malibu, Calif. He was 74.

He was a husky film and television actor, best known for his portrayal of the crusty bachelor who parented three orphans in the television series "Family Affair" from 1966 to 1971.

His career went back to the 1950s and included more than two dozen films and appearances in numerous television series.

One of his longer-running series was "Hardcastle & McCormick" from 1983 to 1986, where he played former judge Milton C. Hardcastle.
