Volume 80, Issue 6

The 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit capped six months of intense training Feb. 20 with an amphibious assault of Red Beach, Calif.

The early morning landing was the final mission of Joint Task Force Exercise 97-1, a combined Navy-Marine Corps operation.

The 10-day exercise involved more than 15,000 Marines and sailors and included elements from the Air Force and Army. More than 20 ships and submarines from the Navy's Third Fleet took part in maneuvers off the coast of Southern California.
