In Memoriam: William J. Campbell

William J. Campbell

Retired Major William J. Campbell died in January in Darby, Mont. He was 75.

He enlisted in the U.S. Naval Aviation Cadet Program and was commissioned a Marine second lieutenant in 1943.

A World War II and Korean War veteran, he was part of the crew of USS Saipan which cruised around the world. In June 1960, he was co-pilot of the helicopter which rescued White House Press Secretary James Hagerty from a demonstration at the Tokyo International Airport.
