On May 29, 1945, the 29th Marines hurried into the ruins of the Okinawan capital city of Naha and relieved the 4th Marines. To those of us old-timers who had been in one or another of the four Marine Raider battalions before the Raiders were broken up and reassembled as the Fourth Marine Regiment, the relief seemed a little premature.
