Tank Busters

Three Russian-built PT76 light amphibious assault tanks being utilized by North Vietnamese troops in Laos were destroyed during air strikes by jet pilots from a Marine Attack Squadron.

The flight of A-4 "Skyhawk" jets, led by Col A. C. Pommerenk, Commanding Officer of the squadron's parent Marine Aircraft Group, were on a scheduled bombing mission when they were diverted to aid besieged ARVN defenders on Fire Support Base 31, eight miles inside the Laotian border.
