Breakfast for Champions
The Marine Corps Association & Foundation welcomed the honor graduates from The Basic School’s Charlie Company Tuesday, 11 September for the Breakfast Reception in the MCA&F building atrium in Bartlett Hall.
MCA&F staff congratulated the company’s honor graduates, staff platoon commanders and commanding officers while the group munched on a spread of bagels, pastries, orange juice and coffee.
MCA&F President and CEO, MajGen Edward Usher, USMC (Ret) also praised the Marines for their service in remembrance of 9/11.
“Since (9/11) every Marine that stepped on the yellow foot prints or raised their right hand after graduating from college accepting their commission has come in knowing that they’re going to go in harm’s way,” MajGen Usher said. “I think the Marines that have come in since then know where they’re going and come in with a purpose. You come in knowing you’re going to be leading Marines in harm’s way.”
The graduates swapped TBS stories with MCA&F staff and described their upcoming MOS training and duty stations.
Congratulations to 2Lt Stephen Spicher for the Lopez Memorial Honor Graduate Award, 2Lt Brooks Grado for the MCA Leadership Award, 2Lt John Parry for the MCA Military Skills Award, 2Lt Andrew Patterson for the Colonel William B. Lemly Award for Academics and 2Lt Luca Simone for the Mitchell Paige Medal of Honor Mustang Spirit Award.
The TBS honor graduate awards are given through the MCA&F Marine Excellence Awards Program and are officially presented during the TBS graduation at MCB Quantico the following day. Each year MCA&F gives awards to recognize nearly 11,000 deserving Marines and provides about 97 percent of all awards distributed in the Corps. The program offers tangible recognition of professional accomplishments and recognizes the honor graduates throughout the Marine Corps officer and enlisted formal schools.
TBS Company Commanding Officers and the Honor graduates with their families attended the MCA&F Breakfast Reception.
