 Journey of a Warrior

Col Gerald Turley, USMC (Ret.) visited The MARINE Shop Thursday, Nov. 15 at Marine Corps Base Quantico to sign copies of his newly released book "The Journey of a Warrior."

Reviewed in the September edition of Leatherneck, the book describes the life and leadership of the 29th Commandant of the Marine Corps General Alfred Gray, USMC (Ret.) Rather than a complete biography, author Turley focuses the book during Gray’s higher ranking years and his time as the Corps’ highest ranking officer. Turley coins Gray as the “Education Commandant” because of the significant advances Gray made in training and knowledge to prepare the Marine Corps for a new future of warfare.

“What he said is the world is changing and the Marine Corps must change,” Turley said. “…He designed training programs to take the Marine Corps into the 21st century…he made a difference.”
