The 2012 Lou Lowery Award was presented to LCpl Jason Morrison at Camp Margarita, Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, Calif., on Aug. 16, 2013. The Lowery Award is sponsored by the Marine Corps Association & Foundation, publisher of Leatherneck and the Marine Corps Gazette.
The award is presented for the best photograph published in Leatherneck—Magazine of the Marines and consists of a plaque and a $500 check.
Morrison’s award-winning photograph captures Marines with “Lima” Battery, 3d Battalion, 11th Marines, firing the M777A2 155 mm lightweight howitzers Dec. 11, 2012, at the Marine Corps Air-Ground Combat Center, Twentynine Palms, Calif., during Exercise Steel Knight 13.
The photo was published in the February 2013 issue of Leatherneck Magazine.
MajGen Lawrence D. Nicholson, Commanding General, First Marine Division, and SgtMaj Frank Pulley, USMC (Ret), MCA&F’s West Coast area representative, presented the award to Morrison who is with First Marine Division Combat Camera.
