Maj Rick Spooner, USMC(Ret), Salutes The Marine Corps Association On Its Centennial
April 24, 2013:
Maj Rick Spooner, USMC(Ret), owner of the popular Globe & Laurel restaurant in Quantico, VA, visited Leatherneck Magazine's editorial office to pay tribute to the Marine Corps Association on its centennial. On April 25, 1913, a group of Marines of the 2d Provisional Marine Brigade at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, banded together to form the MCA. The Association was created to spread “information concerning the aims, purposes and deeds of the Corps, and the interchange of ideas for the betterment and improvement of its officers and men,” according to one of the original statements signed by then-LtCol Lejeune, who went on to become the Corps’ 13th Commandant.
