The United States Marine Corps faced a number of insurgencies throughout its storied history. The Marine Corps fought insurrectionists in South America, Vietnam, Afghanistan, and Iraq. As a result of its learned lessons and knowledge, the Marines developed doctrine, manuals, and tactics to handle counterinsurgency (COIN) operations.
