HIMARS and naval surface fire support

For the Marine Corps to continue to excel as an expeditionary force, it needs to focus on providing many specific capabilities by utilizing the most multipurpose resources available. We do not have the luxury of seeking or funding expensive single-purpose solutions, but must do with our equipment what task organization does with our human resources. Two recent examples of this strategic concept follow:

* The MV-22 offers a major enhancement to air transport that has myriad applications and will likely succeed.
