Ge to Update An/Tps-59 Radar

Volume 76, Issue 9

The Marine Corps has awarded a team led by GE Aerospace a $43 million contract to upgrade two of its AN/TPS-59 air defense radars. The upgrade is designed to improve the radar's ability to detect and track incoming tactical ballistic missiles, acquire smaller targets, and ease the passing of targeting information from radar operators to missile batteries. The contract also includes options to modify all nine additional AN/TPS-59 radars in Marine inventories, which could result in as much as $156 million being awarded to GE in the future.
