A Warrior's Reading List

Volume 72, Issue 11

Guy Anselmo Jr

In its concentration on basic war-fighing skills, the Marine Corps is resurrecting the historical study of the art of war. A recently proposed program, formalized at the unit level, would require all officers to undertake directed historical study. Civil War battlefield staff rides, reminiscent of the 1920s, have become an integral component of the formal schools at Quantico. Each issue of the Gazette contains reviews of books that are almost invariably recommended to become part of each Marine's professional library.
