Safety at Sea Vital Part of Pre-Embarkation Training

SENIOR CHIEF PETTY OFFICER MCCLEAN is the Flight Deck C.P.O. aboard USS Bull Run (LPH 19). At 0930, half-way through a two-part carrier qualification period for the embarked squadron of helicopters, six CH-46Fs land for hot refueling and pilot switches. In the warm Caribbean sun, Chief McClean muses to himself of other flight decks he has known and other less friendly oceans as he supervises the refueling on the after flight deck. As he moves down the flight deck he notices a head appear just below the level of the flight deck on the port side. The head belongs to Cpl J. J.
