The Marine Shop Staff -- 9 Jan 2007 I am very pleased to report that MCA purchased The Marine Shop, the Corps' most prestigious and highest quality uniform and accessory provider. In negotiation for several months, the acquisition was finally secured on 8 January 2007. Prized by generations of discerning Marines, the Quantico, Virginia based Marine Shop earned an enviable business reputation and a loyal client base by providing the best products and most professional and personalized service to Marines worldwide. Providing quality products through quality service is an integral MCA value, which is strongly shared by the Marine Shop staff as well. Shared values, shared mission of supporting Marines, and close proximity made this new strategic partnership a great fit for both MCA and the Marine Shop and I take great pleasure in welcoming the staff of the Marine Shop into the MCA family. Welcome aboard!! I encourage our members to visit the Marine Shop if in the Quantico area and to check out their website which is located here. MCA's flagship magazines, Leatherneck and the Marine Corps Gazette, keep getting better and better. Both are now accessible, in their entirety, ONLINE. This allows members access to their subscription magazines from anywhere in the world – a GREAT feature for deployed Marines. The online editions feature enhancements not possible in the print editions. Both online magazines have archive search features and showcase articles peppered with active key word hot links, allowing readers to explore interesting issues, concepts, equipment and related ideas beyond the confines of the source article. Check it out for yourself by clicking on the magazine hot links above, AND while you are reviewing, be sure to visit the brand new Gazette Discussion Board where a series of interesting debates on a range of issues crucial to Marines rages. As a key highlight for January, we are pleased to present the first MCA Luncheon of the year in the Washington DC area. The guest speaker is newly appointed Commandant of the Marine Corps, General James T. Conway, USMC. Mark your calendar for 22 January and click here for more details and registration information. We hope to see you there. As always, thanks for your support of the professional association for all Marines.Semper Fidelis,

As the Marine leadership and units in Iraq redeploy and new leaders and units take up the combat tasks in Iraq, we look forward to documenting the successes and continuing challenges in this long war on terror. So, stick with us to read about current operations in Iraq and the training and exercises underway to prepare more Marines for combat. Looking ahead to the February issue, in addition to what's going on in the War on Terror, I think you will be pleased to read an update on the Marine Corps Recruiters School. The 34th Commandant, General James T. Conway, has made a commitment to pursue an increase in end-strength. Can our recruiting force handle it? Read about how and what the Corps teaches at the school to get our best ready for the recruiting challenges. Recruiters School, an article on the interrogation techniques of World War II as the basis for interrogating Iraqi prisoners ("The Gold Standard: Major Sherwood Moran and the Interrogation of Prisoners of War"), an article on the little publicized advance recon operations for the Battle of Iwo Jima,("World War II: Magnificent Courage: Iwo Jima Beach Reconnaissance") and a Battle of Hue City anniversary article (Vietnam: Hue City, 31 Jan. 1968: Send in the Marines, Little Did They Know What They Were Getting Into ") and our standard departments round out what we see as a very compelling February issue. We hope you enjoy it. Don't forget, Leatherneck is digital and can now be read fully online. Visit the Leatherneck homepage to read it from ANYWHERE in the world: www.mca-marines.org/leatherneck/ |

Not only is the entire print magazine available to all MCA members and subscribers ONLINE, but now, Gazette just added a dynamic new ONLINE feature as well... Gazette now showcases Discussion Boards accessible through the Gazette homepage, allowing responsible readers to contribute to the ongoing, intellectual dialogues on a range of timely operational, technical, tactical, procedural and doctrinal issues and concerns. Gazette encourages our members to join the professional debates in the professional journal for Marines. Think, Write and make your views known... Visit the Marine Corps Gazette homepage TODAY to check out the ONLINE edition of Gazette and to read the brewing controversies on the Gazette Discussion Board: www.mca-marines.org/gazette/ The February edition of Gazette is sure to provide a volume of fresh grist for the new Discussion Board’s millstones. As a quick highlight, February’s issue deals with evolving operational art in two feature articles exploring the concept of distributed operations in the Marine Corps. Another article continues the debate on intelligence requirements, expectations and capabilities – not at the top echelon staff level but rather from the perspective of the small unit. The month's feature article is on the "Single Battle" concept. The article challenges the conventional view of modern conflict in terms of deep, close and rear battles, suggesting a more holistic view is a more insightful and effective way to perceive the battle. Read Gazette and join the ONLINE debate on our new Discussion Board TODAY! |

| MEMBERSHIP/RENEWAL NOTICES | ||||||||||||
The life-blood of the Marine Corps Association is our member base. We work hard to acquire and even harder to keep members in the Professional Association for All Marines. Beginning this month, MCA will send 2 renewal notice reminders (instead of 3) and will continue to add a Magazine Cover Wrap reminder if the member has not responded to the second reminder. A final, follow-up phone call from an MCA telemarketing representative completes the effort to ward off membership expirations. Special Membership Renewal Promotion Through the month of July, members who renew their membership by the 10th of the month following receipt of their FIRST renewal bill, invoice or notice, will automatically get their names included in a random drawing to win a bottle of USMC Semper Fi Cologne. We are starting with cologne but are looking to expand the prize base as additional incentive for members who respond quickly to their membership notices and to thank our members for being a part of MCA. Winners will be mentioned in future issues of MCA Today. |
