Our goal is to use the web site as a way to enhance the material already in our magazine. We believe Weekend Extra is a step in the right direction.
For Weekend Extra to be successful, we're counting on you, our readers, to send us content that other readers will enjoy. We'll post a new edition of Weekend Extra on all weekends and even holiday weekends - we'll truly have something new for you everyday.
Here's our initial vision of what kind of content will appear:
Saturdays:
- Leatherneck's Favorites From YouTube
- We'll search for Marine Corps related videos that touch on our history, heritage, and/or tradition.
- Leatherneck's Favorites From Flickr
- Things To Do And Know
- We will post material such as places where Marines and their families can go during off-duty hours. We are interested in feature material with a Marine flavor: travel, places to stay, fitness, fashions, shooting, volunteer organizations, ways to save money, smart shopping, reviews of movies, books and video games about the Corps.
- Gyrene Jokes
- In our July issue we printed our eight favorite jokes. Please send in your jokes and we'll do our best to post what we can.
Sundays:
- Sunday Morning Reading
- We will post editorials, commentary and opinions, pro and con, about the Corps and events in the Corps, as well as thoughtful pieces about the Marine Corps.
- Blast From The Past
- We'll scour our archives for items in the magazine that will make you chuckle, and for some, reminisce.
- If we come across photos in Flickr or elsewhere that depict Marines or items interesting to Marines from years ago, we'll try to post them for our readers' enjoyment.
