"We've Fought In Every Clime And Place": Stamping out the Caco Insurrection in the Republic d' Haiti.
January 2002: The Marines engraved another mark in the rich history of the Corps when they came from more than 400 miles offshore to establish a forward operating base south of Kandahar in the war on terrorism. The Marine CH-46 helicopter on the cover, photographed by PH1(AW/SW) Greg Messier, USN, fought in the desert sand to land and resupply Marines such as the ones (inset) photographed by Sgt Joseph R. Chenelly.
January 2001: This firefight during the Frozen Chosin Reservoir Campaign of 1950 was painted by “Chosin Few” veteran Jack Cannon, who served with Company B, 1st Battalion, Seventh Marine Regiment and resides in the warmer climes of New Mexico. The cover was part of Leatherneck’s 50th anniversary salute to the Korean War veterans.

Laffs
Thanks for the comments Bruce. The Leatherneck Laffs section of our website and the print/digital editions remain among the most popular segments--particularly among Marines.
Leo Rosten, a great writer-particularly on the Jewish culture -said "Humor is the affectionate communication of insight."
Good to know that you were treated well on that two-day visit to Parris Island.
Thanks for your service to America.

Laffs....
I do not like the "Laffs" feature in Leatherneck Magazine. I think most of the so-called "humor" is poorly presented and casts a low-grade image of Marines in general. Quality cartoons with some real humor would be ok...but most of the "Laffs" are degrading and quite inane...if not plainly stupid.
I served in the US Army in the 1950's and we visited Parris Island with our Post Baseball team from Camp Stewart(now Fort S.). We were treated very well by all parties...all though we lost all 3 games over 2 days. We toured the base and we were very impressed with the sharp landscape and design...plus the Museum of past Marine accomplishments...quite impressive.
So I would re-think the "Laffs" pages if I were you... humor can be of very high "caliber" ... and I think the honor of the Marines would deserve such a high "caliber" approach.
Thanks...Bruce H.
