USMC Statement About Women In Service

MarinesTV
Description:

Mar. 26, 2012:

Influencial female Marines from different walks of life came together at the National Museum of the Marine Corps to take part in a panel discussing their experiences.

The Commandant and the entire Marine Corps are dedicated to maintaining the highest levels of combat readiness and capitalizing upon every opportunity to enhance our warfighting capabilities and the contributions of every Marine; it's simply the right thing to do.  Our ongoing deliberate, measured and responsible approach to validate occupational performance standards for all Marines is consistent with SECDEF's decision to rescind the direct combat exclusion rule for women.

As our Corps moves forward with this process, our focus will remain on combat readiness and generating combat-ready units while simultaneously ensuring maximum success for every Marine.  The talent pool from which we select our finest warfighters will consist of all qualified individuals, regardless of gender.

end discrimination

Women should be integrated into combat units, and the process needs to start in boot camp and OCS. end gender separation; have the men and women share the same facilities, barracks, heads, chow halls, training, everything. There might be some sexual tension but we already experience that with our gay Marines. They will live together in the field and they need to train the same way.

end all 'separate but equal' discrimination

We need to end all separate but equal processing within the Marine Corps; process the women through boot camp, OCS, TBS etc alongside the men, same barracks, same head, same chow hall, everything.  There might be some sexual attraction within the ranks but we already have that with gays integrated into each unit.  The genders need to become accustomed to living in close proximity and it needs to start in boot camp.  Male recruitment might even increase!

Unfortuntately

I say this with much trepidation but it appears the CMC has decided his career and pension are more important than the Corps. If the policy does not clearly improve the combat effectiveness and, efficiency of the unit or improve the esprit de corps it should not be done. The condition of the rifle platoon, even in today's wars, can be harsh and unforgiving. The conversation seems to be about the "opportunity" for women to serve in combat arms MOS's. Really, the opportunity? We talk about it like it is some kind of perk that men have that women do not. So will women have the opportunity to chose or will they be forced to serve in the infantry as men at times are? Women chose, men are required, is that the new standard? How many women will we need to send through training to get one out ready to go without lowering standards? We already have seperate physical standards for men and women, will the women now have to meet the men's or are the men's going to be lowered? How many sexual and privacy issues will come into play in a combat situation where seperate facilites (or no facilities) are available. This is more social experimentation of the left in the US Military and military leadership going along to protect their careers. Women serve honorably in many, many areas of the US Military today we should recognize that without thinking that service in infantry units will somehow make them "more equal" than they are today.
