Accurately: We can’t afford to compromise high standards of accountability

Bernie Madoff will spend the rest of his natural life behind bars for fraudulently misrepresenting and embezzling billions of investor’s dollars. His Ponzi scheme didn’t occur overnight but slowly developed over decades. Mr. Madoff is the “face” of hundreds of executives who have been skylined for mishandling and misrepresenting corporate assets during this economic recession. All of them have this in common: their initial standards of reporting accuracy were compromised in order to adapt to changing times. Read the full article.

Defense Secretary Robert Gates has ordered a delay in the Lockheed Martin Corp. F-35 program, cutting the Pentagon’s planned purchases by 10 aircraft in fiscal 2011 and a total of 122 through 2015, according to a budget document.

More than $2.8 billion that was budgeted earlier to buy the military’s next-generation fighter would instead be used to continue its development.

The delay is a setback for both Gates and Lockheed. Read more on Corps Daily News.

The Code Talkers are using their trip as a bid to raise funds for a museum to honor their contribution to defeating the Japanese. Few of the original 400 Navajo Code Talkers are still alive.
One phone call and a fax in July 2003 had a significant impact on my opinion of my own leadership and the Marine Corps. I had been assigned as the casualty assistance calls officer (CACO) for a Marine captain killed in Djibouti during a training exercise. My assignment as a CACO was followed by four more notifications over the next year. For me, knocking on a stranger’s door, telling them that their Marine had been killed, and then helping the family through the funeral arrangements, the paperwork, and the grieving process has been the greatest leadership challenge in my career.Read more.
