General Officer Announcements
On 10 October, the Secretary of Defense announced that the President had nominated Gen Joseph F. Dunford, Jr., to command coalition and U.S. Forces in Afghanistan. Gen Dunford is currently the Assistant Commandant of the Marine Corps.
On 19 October, the Secretary of Defense announced that the President had nominated LtGen John M. Paxton, Jr., for appointment to general and assignment as Assistant Commandant of the Marine Corps. LtGen Paxton is currently the Commander, Marine Corps Forces Command, Marine Fleet Force Atlantic, and U.S. Marine Corps Forces Europe.
The article, “PA and IO,” (MCG, Feb10) written by then-Capt Beverly V. Miramontes has been largely copied from three sources without appropriate citation. The article should not be cited or used in research, papers, or articles.

On 23 October, HQMC released MarAdmin 615/12, MEB-A Presidential Unit Citation. The MarAdmin publishes the units eligible to participate in the Presidential Unit Citation for MEB-Afghanistan in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM from 29 May 2009 to 12 April 2010.
Also on 23 October, HQMC released MarAdmin 616/12, SPMAGTF Navy Unit Commendation. The MarAdmin publishes the units eligible to participate in the Navy Unit Commendation for Special Purpose MAGTF-Afghanistan in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM from 15 November 2008 to 29 May 2009.
