General Officer Anouncements

On 1 May the Secretary of Defense, Robert M. Gates, announced that the President had made the following nominations:

LtGen Joseph F. Dunford, Jr. was nominated to serve as the CG, 1st Marine Expeditionary Force (I MEF), and Commander, U.S. Marine Corps Forces, U.S. Central Command. LtGen Dunford was also renominated for appointment to lieutenant general. He is currently serving as the Deputy Commandant (DC), Plans, Policies, and Operations Department, HQMC.

LtGen Richard C. Zilmer was nominated to serve as the DC, Manpower and Reserve Affairs, HQMC. LtGen Zilmer is currently the CG, III MEF; Commander, Marine Bases Japan; and Commander, Marine Forces Japan in Okinawa.

MajGen Walter E. Gaskin, Sr. has been nominated to serve as the Deputy Chairman, NATO Military Committee and for appointment to the rank of lieutenant general. MajGen Gaskin is currently serving as the Vice Director, Joint Staff, Washington, DC.
