Pensacola, Fl.

The Marine Corps League and the Marine Corps Aviation Association today announced the date for the 29th annual Semper Fi Charity Run/Walk. The Semper Fi run will be held in Downtown Pensacola on 15 September 2012. The race will start at the Blue Wahoo’s Baseball Stadium and end at Seville Quarter.

The Semper Fi Charity Run race participants may register online or with a mail in form. These forms are available at www.semperficharityrun.org/registration. Registration rates until Sept. 2 are $25 per runner, with a guaranteed t-shirt for each participant. Military units wishing to participate should contact childrensrun5k@gmail.com for discounted registration.

The Semper Fi Charity Run began in 1983 with the goal of helping the families of the 241 American service members killed in the bombing attack on the Marine barracks in Beirut. Today, the purpose of the race is to give back to the Pensacola community. All proceeds will benefit the local outreach programs: New Horizons of Northwest Florida, Escambia Westgate School, The Miracle League of Pensacola, Gulf Coast Kids House, and the Boys and Girls Club of the Emerald Coast.

In 2011, the Marine Corps League and the Marine Corps Aviation Association were able to raise $21,500 for the local charities. If you would like to sponsor this event, please visit www.semperficharityrun.org/sponsors or call (850) 452-9460 ext. 3113.

2dLt Howard Burd (USMC), one of the organizers of the Semper Fi Charity run, stated: “As Marines, not only are we committed to serving our country, but we find it our duty to assist those who need our help the most. For the past 29 Years, we have dedicated ourselves to this community and most importantly the children our charity supports. It is my hope that as Americans you can find a place in your heart to support this cause by donating or registering at semperficharityrun.org."
