Marine Corps Wedding Guidelines
May 18, 2011”Service Etiquette does this apply to both navy and Marine Corps. Interested planning a wedding and info on sword drills.”

The same traditions apply to the US Navy as do they do for the US Marine Corps.
I have listed a few instances and guideline you may find helpful.
Navy and Marine Corps - The Arch of Swords
The arch of swords for weddings is authorized for commissioned, warrant, staff noncommissioned officers, and noncommissioned officers only. The arch of swords ceremony is an old English and American custom, which gives a symbolic pledge of loyalty to the newly married couple from their Marine/Navy family. Only the newly married couple is allowed to pass under the arch.
The ushers normally form the sword detail, however other officers, warrant or staff noncommissioned officers may be designated as needed. Customarily, six or eight members take part in the ceremony. The ushers form at the bottom of the chapel steps, in two equal ranks, at normal interval, facing each other, with sufficient room between ranks (3 to 4 paces) for the bride and groom to pass. The senior usher is positioned in the left rank furthest from the chapel exit.
The swordsmen, usually ushers, seat the guests, and after the mother of the bride has been escorted, will hook on their swords, wearing them until time to form the arch.
It is virtually the same as the Arch of Sabers except for the command "Officers, Draw Swords" rising gracefully to touch the tip of the opposite sword.
Departure from the church
At a military wedding, the bride and groom usually leave the chapel or church under the traditional arch of sabers.
It is preferable that six ushers in uniform perform this ceremony, although many more may take part. Ushers may be in uniform of one or more services.
Rifles can be substituted for the sabers if there is difficulty in obtaining the needed amount. Most military chapels have them on hand, or the couple could check with the local military museum or with the various commanding officers to request the sabers.
The wedding reception
At the reception, if the groom is in uniform, protocol demands that he precede the bride in the receiving line.
The national colors and distinguishing flags may be displayed, exactly centered, behind the receiving line, and if the reception room is large, the bridal couple may want an arch included at the reception instead of during the recessional.
Cutting of the Cake
On command, the saber bearers enter the reception room in formation lining up in front of the wedding cake, facing each other.
The bride and groom leave the receiving line, and then pass beneath the arch. They may pause and kiss, before proceeding to cut the cake. The groom would then hand the bride his unsheathed saber and with his hands over hers, their first piece is cut.

Marines needed for wedding Sword arch
Any ideas on how to find enough Marines to make a sword arch for a wedding in Youngstown Ohio Sept4th 2011?
Marine Corps wedding
Marine:
Suggest you contact the nearest Marine Corps Reserve unit at the Youngstown Air Force Reserve Station in Vienna, near Cortland. You'll probably need to guarantee free chow, or some other inducement. If that doesn't work, contact the nearest Marine Corps Recruiter. See below for information on the Reserve Unit. Best of luck to you and your bride/groom.

Its really nice to see the Couple under Arch of sword
Its always very nice to watch the Defence people's wedding. I saw this arch of swords and ask that why this arch is made for the couple, what does it actually means from the Defence Family point of view as well as from the wedding couple's point of view. The answer was only it is a priveledge. This tredition is kind of an hounrable wedding wishes.
But what I interprate from this is the new comer to this family whether he or she is not having training to fight. But still now he/she would be ready to live under the shadow of swords. It can be a symbol of protection that he/she is now under the protection of stong family.

Is this OK?
As a young marine, my girlfriend and I are trying to save money on our wedding. One idea we had is to make do it yourself wedding invitations. We found some templates, but I want to make sure we aren't breaking any kind of rules by doing this. I don't think so, but I'd rather dot all the i's and cross all the t's.
Its your choice
I'm an Army Reservist and will be getting married soon as well. Its your wedding and you can do what ever you want. For our engagement invitations, I did the same thing as you did. I found a template to use, then customized it. I took it to FedEx office to print out on decorative paper instead of using normal office paper. Overall, it only cost me about $2 per invitation.
Just make a list of things you want to have, and start saving for it. I advise you to start planning ahead at least one year out for the venue.
Arch
My fiance' and I want to have the arch at our wedding (he wants me to be fully "initiated into Marine Corps life"), but above it says only "The arch of swords for weddings is authorized for commissioned, warrant, staff noncommissioned officers, and noncommissioned officers only." Is this correct? We have been to and seen other weddings of non-officers and seen the arch.
arch
In order to have a sword in the USMC the individual must be a non-commissioned officer (E-4 or above).
wedding for former marine not wearing his dress blues
Is it ok to have a arch even if not in dress blues
for the groom? Lvmtbkid@yahoo.com
RE: Wedding for former marine not wearing his dress blues
Technically, no, you are not supposed to have the saber arch without being in uniform, and the men holding the sabers are supposed to be in traditional service wear and white gloves. Otherwise it's considered disrespectful.
Remember, once a Marine always a Marine. There are no former Marines.
Hope this helps.

Wedding Next Year
My fiance and I are getting married next year but he will be deployed until a few months before the wedding. When do we need to contact a reserve unit or recruiter to "reserve" enough guys for the arc of the sabres? Also, we're getting married near Camp LeJeune, can the USMC FRO not help us find guys for the arc or is this entirely separate from the USMC even though he is active duty and doesn't want to have guys he knows? Do I have to go through a reserve unit or other way?

Wedding w sabers by retired marines. As of 2009
So it's appropriate for a marine honorably discharged to wear his dress blues and be married and have the saber held by retired marines. ... Iraq n afghanistan. Any feedback? There will be 7 marines all retired except 2 when u say retired. These former active duty marines are 31 and younger
Wedding question
So my fiance is a marine sationed in california and I really want to have the arch/cake cutting this way, and I'm a bit confused about the ranking to do so. Right now he's an E-3 (lance corpral right?) but when he gets back from deployment he'll be an E-4. Can he have the saber or not?
Cost of the Arch of Swords
I was curious as to if there was a cost to having the Arch of Swords at my wedding ceremony.
Cost of Arch of Swords
It's not something one buys with money. The sword arch is by military men and women, dressed in uniform, armed with the sword. The sword arch is a tradition at military weddings.

Military wedding arch of swords
So to have arch of swords at my wedding I have to be an E4 or higher and be an officer?
per the Marine Corps drill
per the Marine Corps drill and ceremonies manual, only Staff Sgts and above, including commissioned and warrant officers, rate the arch of swords. the order is MCO P5060.20 and the chapter is 5 and it is explained in paragraph 5016 on page 5-26.
You have to be an NCO, Staff
You have to be an NCO, Staff NCO, WO or and Officer. e-4 or higher
Change in venue
My fiance (Marine Corporal) and I are not planning on getting married in a church, but a historic building instead. We are desiring to incorporate the same traditions as that of a wedding with a ceremony in a church. Are there any changes that need to be made or procedures that are different for this type of wedding?
