There are many different health risks faced by those serving our country, happily there are effective ways to treat and prevent most of these issues. Those in the service and their families often worry about the potential long-term effects of their time in the military. Some veterans suffer mental and physical challenges long after they leave the service. When service members and their families are aware of these issues, they can take steps to prevent them.

So Close to Home….

For good or bad, the Marine Corps is downsizing, along with the rest of the Armed Forces. The Marines will be cut from 202K down to 185K and current rumors are swirling of additional cuts down to 175K.

"One day, your life will flash before your eyes. Make sure it is worth watching,” that is the signature quote of Gunnery Sergeant Dave Smith who almost lost his life in July. This Marine, this real American hero has seen four combat tours, even surviving an IED blast and being awarded a Bronze Star with Combat V; however, it was when he was safe at home that he almost lost his life. Greetings everyone, from all of us here at MCA&F!

Most bloggers are taking a short break through the holidays, but join us again in 2012 as we continue to grow this area! We'll have several new blogs/bloggers next year.

Until then, we'd like to give a "shout out" to all the brave men and women in the Corps. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your families, no matter where you are, and we hope that your holidays are safe and happy.

Dec. 9th

So many thoughts, so many feelings rushing, rushing through my head. I was dizzy, numb, lost.

Yesterday, William left for Afghanistan.  My anchor was gone. I felt like a lost balloon.

Before William left, I had to take Jacob into daycare. Driving home, I realized that I felt secure in knowing William would be home when I got there.  How many times did I simply take that for granted?
