40 Years Ago: Leatherneck in 1969

"Combat Artist, Capt Leonard H. Dermott, painted this month's cover after he returned from Operation Essex in Antennae Valley, about 20 miles southwest of Da Nang. The acrylic painting depicts a Marine squad leader directing the placement of an M-60 machine gun to tie in with other supporting fires from units on his flanks. The painting is indicative of this issue's theme: 'Leadership.'"
