Membership

What are the new changes?

We created Premium and Associate membership options to provide opportunities for Marines and individuals who meet the membership criteria to have access to membership at no cost to them.  We also wanted to provide more exclusive content to paying members, in addition to our digital magazine content. We also wanted to expand our no-cost memberships to serve more Total Force Marines.

Why have you changed the prices for membership?

We’ve updated our pricing to account for the added cost of producing both magazines and to account for the additional membership benefits that we’ve been providing over the course of a few years. The last price increase happened in 2018.

How much will the memberships cost now?

The new costs are as follows:

Dig Mag: 1/yr                      $45.95

Dig Mag: 3/yrs                 $137.95

1 Mag: I/yr                           $72.95

1 Mag: 3/yrs                     $215.95

2 Mag: 1/yr                         $98.95

2 Mag: 3/yrs                    $294.95

Why am I paying more, and I don’t receive hard copies of Leatherneck or The Gazette? I don’t need any of the other membership benefits.

We understand the increased costs seem significant to existing members who receive a magazine and don’t use the other benefits, but we provide these membership benefits to all members and the cost to provide them has to be shared across our membership. To ease this increased cost to you, we’ve offered to keep you at your current rate when you renew your membership. You can renew for a one or three-year membership which would allow you to maintain your current rate. but after that you’ll have to renew at the new membership rates.

Can I just receive a magazine subscription without a membership?

To receive a print copy of the magazine, you must be a Premium member of MCA. You can request to only receive the digital version at a minimal increase in cost, but to receive the magazine you will need to select a premium membership option that includes one or both print magazines.

What does the additional cost go towards? I’m not receiving any additional benefits as a nonactive duty member.

The costs are directly tied to the support we provide Marines through our projects and programs as well as the ability to offer no cost memberships to Total Force Marines.  Your membership in MCA is one way you demonstrate your support to the Marines serving our nation today.

Why is the increase so much? Most magazine subscriptions are much less than this.

The price increase allows MCA to provide the additional content available to premium members on our website as well as the costs related to producing our iconic publications.

Additionally, we continue to provide Marines with over 4,000 awards annually as well as battlefield studies and unit libraries.  Other Military Service Associations do not provide the professional military education programs that we do.  Additionally, we’ve recently started providing leadership development conferences at the request of senior leadership which have covered subjects such as Force Preservation.

Finally, despite our magazine costs being comparable to the industry standard, producing at the current rate isn’t sustainable as our membership apparatus has been operating at a loss for years and advertising revenues have fallen across the publishing industries, making it unsustainable, long term, to operate at the current rates.

Can I be grandfathered on the old rates?

Yes. You can renew now or when your renewal date comes up, at the current rate. . After this one opportunity to grandfather in at your current rates, you’ll have to renew at the new membership rates, so take advantage of this opportunity. If you plan to wait until your renewal date, please contact the Service Center at 1-866-622-1775 for assistance.

Can I renew for just a year? Why have you discontinued two-year memberships?

We discontinued our two-year membership option for lack of participation. Those two-year members can choose to renew for one or three years, at the current rate. After this one opportunity to renew at your current rates, you’ll have to renew at the new membership rates, so take advantage of this opportunity. Under certain circumstances, you can pay for two 1-year memberships. Contact our service center for more details at 1-866 622-1775.

Why do I have to wait two months after I sign up to get my first magazine in the mail?

It can be dependent on when you ordered your magazine – if you order after we have printed the next issue, that will delay your first issue.  Additionally, production, transportation, the postal system, or bad weather may delay the delivery of your magazine.  If you haven’t received your issue after 30 days, or your copy is damaged, you can report a missing or damaged copy to our support center. Also, if your magazine arrives late, frequently, please contact our support center as well. They can be reached at 1-866-622-1775.

Can I be a member and get the benefits without getting the magazines?

As a Premium Member, you will receive access to our digital magazines as a benefit. You do not need to order and pay for a print subscription unless you desire to have a hard copy. As an Associate member, you will have limited benefits and will only have periodic access to feature articles from both publications.

As a premium member, you have access to all member benefits and resources which includes access to our digital magazines. You do not need to pay for a premium membership that includes the print magazines unless you desire to have a hard copy. As an Associate member, you will have limited benefits and will only have periodic access to feature articles from both publications.

What if I am a Life Member? Will the change impact me?

If you are a life or Insured member, your current membership policy will not change.

If I am a member through 2025, what does this mean for me?

Regardless of when your current membership ends, you can renew at your current rate. Please contact the Service Center at 1-866-622-1775 for further details.

Why does it say honorably served for 1yrs, I served for 10yrs etc…?

We have converted our “Honorably Served” memberships to Premium. Though we will continue to track your years of service, this will not impact your Premium membership.
